Virtuix Omni One: What We Know So Far

Step onto the treadmill, strap yourself in, put on an VR-bril, and transport yourself to another dimension. This sounds like the plot of the famous Steven Spielberg film Ready Player One, but nothing could be further from the truth! The Virtuix Omni One is the latest project from American developer Virtuix, known for one of the first (and most chosen) VR-loopband, particularly in VR arcades and other entertainment centres.

Right in the Living Room

The Omni One is the successor to the popular Virtuix Omni Pro. Special attention has been given to the fact that the Omni One is much smaller and more compact. It also appears that players in the Omni One can move much more freely than was possible in the Omni Pro. While in the Omni Pro you were still attached to a sturdy ring around your waist, with the Omni One you step into a kind of harness that resembles the vest from bHaptics (like the bHaptics X40. Imagine running around in the virtual world and actually feeling it when you get hit! It doesn't get more realistic than that.

The biggest advantage of an VR-loopband is the fact that you can move a full 360 degrees without needing the physical space for it. You can run, jump, crawl, and spin around without posing a danger to others - or accidentally bumping into the wall. This is also one of the reasons why an VR-loopband is a highly sought-after attribute in the VR Arcade-wereld.

But what stands out the most about the Omni One is that the product can be placed right in the living room. While the Virtuix Omni Pro was mainly targeted at the professional gaming industry, the Omni One can be placed in your bedroom or man cave! The price also seems to reflect this. While comparable VR-loopbanden can quickly run into the thousands of euros (and often require a very powerful PC), the Virtuix Omni One is expected to be available for $1995 (note, this price may differ from the final European retail price). Additionally, the Omni One is fully compatible with the Pico Neo 2 headset (and possibly other standalone VR-brillen when the Omni One hits the market), so you no longer need an external PC.

Release Date Unknown

In addition to several games developed by Virtuix VR-games, it is also possible to play other well-known games with the Omni One treadmill. For example, there are already many mods available that allow you to play GTA 5 and Team Fortress 2 on the Virtuix Omni-loopband.

All in all, we are very excited about the Virtuix Omni One. It is not yet known when the release date of this product will be, but we certainly can't wait to strap ourselves into the harness and run around on the Omni One!
