Movella Xsens DOT Sensor
The Movella DOT Sensor is a contemporary development platform for capturing, analysing, and reporting human motion. The sensor incorporates an advanced Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), which is a fusion of an accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer. Together, these components record how a body part moves and orients in space. Thanks to this precise technology, the DOT delivers high-resolution data that can be easily viewed in the Movella DOT app or integrated into software via the Movella SDK.
The sensor is used in diverse application areas. Within the sports world, the DOT assists athletes and coaches in better understanding and improving movements such as running, jumping or swinging. In healthcare and rehabilitation, the sensor enables the collection of objective data about the recovery process, for instance during physiotherapy. For ergonomic research, the DOT can be deployed to analyse working postures and repetitive movements, thus improving working conditions. Additionally, the sensor is applied in academic research, where reliable motion data is required to develop new insights or test innovative technologies.
A significant advantage of the Movella DOT Sensor is that multiple sensors can be used simultaneously. By combining data from various sensors, a comprehensive picture of the body in motion is created. This allows for both simple applications, such as measuring a single joint, as well as complex full-body analyses. The sensor is light, compact, and ergonomically designed, making it comfortable to wear without restricting movement.
With an IP68 rating, the DOT is water and dust resistant, making it usable in diverse environments. The long battery life allows for continuous data collection throughout the day. For basic usage, the free Movella DOT app (Android/iOS) is available. For more advanced applications, such as integration into professional software, research or commercial projects, an additional software or SDK licence is required, which must be purchased separately from Movella. Movella also supports users with extensive documentation and access to an active community, significantly simplifying the development of new applications.
Please note: the Movella DOT Sensor is supplied without accessories, such as cables or mounting options. These need to be ordered separately.
