Facebook temporarily stops with sales Oculus Quest 2 due to 'skin irritation'
Oculus is temporarily suspending sales of the Oculus Quest 2 headset due to several reports of "skin irritation." Some users indicate that the standard facial interface of the Quest 2 headset provokes a nasty allergic reaction (this is different from the pressure sores you can experience with with a headset).
Due to these reports, Oculus has decided to put all sales of the Quest 2 headsets on hold. This means that it will no longer be possible to buy an Oculus Quest 2 headset for a few weeks. It is currently expected that Oculus will release a new variant of the Quest 2 (128GB) from the end of August 2021 with, directly using a new type of face interface. From then on we expect that the Oculus Quest 2 will be fully available again.
This notification also highlights the importance of hygienic solutions for VR headsets. Fortunately, there are now a lot of products on the market that can make using the headset more pleasant. For example, use a silicone mask, a new PU face interface or our Universal VR masks to improve the comfort and hygiene of your VR experience.
